Welcome to my first newsletter of 2016. I trust that you all had a great time over the Christmas period and saw the New Year in, in style!
There was a fantastic turn out for the annual Captain's Drive in on New Year's Day. The weather took a slight turn for the worst as Rob, Rosemary, Phil, Viv and Sam formally began their year of office by driving in from the eighteenth tee. I am pleased to report that despite a few nerves pre drive in, they all produced some incredible drives and are all looking forward to their year ahead.
Before I begin my report on this year's action, there are a couple of events to catch up on from the end of last season.
The final Ladies Stableford of 2015 saw Lauren Chapman at the top of the pile with an impressive 39 points.
The final event of 2015 was the Cross Country Texas Scramble. The competition always attracts a sizeable field and a fun time is had by all. This year's format was split into two categories with prizes for the best male team and the best mixed team. The leading male team on the day was Jim Colvin, Bruce Chapman, Robin Murray and Joe Sharp with nett 25.7. The leading mixed team was Kelly Hughes, Helen Hughes, Mark Newton and Chris Bird with nett 27.8.
The first competitive action of 2016 fell foul to the weather as heavy rain washed out the January Medal on Saturday and the Seniors Stableford on Monday.
The playing season at East Devon Golf Club finally got under way on Tuesday when the Ladies were out in force for a 5 Clubs and a Putter Stableford Stableford. The leading lady on the day and continuing her run of good form was Rowan Edbrooke with a tremendous 21 Points.
Congratulations to all of this week winners.
As we head into the New Year, here's hoping you enjoy your best ever year on and off the golf course. We don't wish to start the year on a negative, but let's face it, the weather isn't looking too great is it?!
With this in mind, we know many of you have taken to the range to work on your game. If you are doing so, rather than taking a bucket of balls and swinging away aimlessly, give yourself a goal. It takes no time at all to crack your way through 30 or 60 balls, but what are you hoping to achieve by the end of it? Too many amateur golfers make this common mistake.
We have some ways of helping you to improve your range time. Come and speak to the team because we can identify areas of your game where you can improve and offer drills to help you get there. Not only will goals help you focus more on what you're trying to achieve, but it will make hitting balls a touch more rewarding as well.
