Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. I trust that you all enjoyed the Easter break, and wasn't it nice to have a decent little spell of weather for a change? The course and the Pro-Shop have been very busy and the new format Easter competitions proved to be a big hit with the members.
The first of which was a Better Ball Stableford on Good Friday. 62 pairs battled it out and it was the pairing of Club Secretary Julian Reynolds and his partner Will Hendry who strode to victory with an impressive 45 points.
Easter Monday's individual Stableford attracted another big entry and a number of great scores were recorded on the day. Coming out on top of the pile with a tremendous 44 points was George Webster.
The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for an individual Stableford. Scoring on the day was impressive with a number of ladies reducing their handicaps. 38 points seemed to be the order of the day, a score matched by no less than 6 players, but after a count back, Hilary Shiels claimed top spot in Division 1, and Jenny Dobel took the plaudits in Division 2. There were 83 entries.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
Hopefully by now you've all got yourself re-gripped as we start to enjoy those longer evenings out on the course. When Ben Hogan wrote "Good golf begins with a good grip," he was talking about where the hands go on the club. But he could just as well have been talking about the handle of the club itself.
Worn grips are one of those things that sneak up on you; and given they directly affect your control of the club, they can have a profound effect. It's not just that your hands are more likely to slip on a worn grip, especially in the rain; it's also that you'll sense this unconsciously, and start to grip the club tighter. That can get you into a whole host of nasty swing traits, usually involving loss of rhythm and power.
Like every other part of the game, grip technology has leapt forward. The latest grips we stock offer a range of textures, hand-specific patterns and moisture resistance. Regrip your clubs with us and we can guarantee you the best connection with the club possible. We can also ensure their thickness suits your hand size - a vital aspect of controlling the club, and one that needs an expert eye.
