Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another very busy week here at East Devon Golf Club.
As I put pen to paper this week, the first round of the Masters from Augusta has just been completed and Jordan Spieth heads the leaderboard once again after an impressive 66. Justin Rose, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey are all handily placed 3 shots back, and hopefully will make a charge over the weekend!
Congratulations to David Blick on winning this year's East Devon's 36 Hole Open. His 2 round total of 143 on Sunday was just good enough to claim the title for 2016.
The April Medal attracted an entry of 90 last Saturday. Scoring conditions on the day proved to be favourable with a number of the field shooting par or better. The event proved to be a very close run affair with a 3 way tie for the position of best score of the day on nett 69. Chris Taunton taking the honours in Division 1, Alan Dewhurst likewise in Division 2 and Kelly Hughes landing top spot in Division 3.
The Heslop Cup was run in conjunction with the April Medal and was competed for by the Medal winners from all 3 divisions from the previous season. Lifting the trophy this year with his nett 69 was Chris Taunton.
The Seniors Stableford on Monday fell foul to the weather as heavy rain and fog swept across the course making play on the day impossible.
A beautiful day greeted the ladies on Tuesday for their EG Medal. Tied at the top of the leaderboard on nett 72 was Liz Connolly and Jan Hill. By virtue of a superior back nine, Academy Graduate Liz came out on top.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
