Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another lovely week here at East Devon Golf Club.
It has been an extremely busy week both on and off the course, and I shall start my round up this week with the annual Captains' Charity Golf Day which proved to be a great success last Wednesday. The event was well supported, and a large sum of cash was raised on the day for the charity. The leading team on the day was Trevor Reeve, Glenn Tucker, Eric Biddulph and Geoff Millardship with an incredible 93 points.
The second and concluding round of the Scratch and Handicap Championship took place on Saturday with still much to play for. The Scratch Medal for 2016 was won by David Blick who returned a Gross 75 to add to his 70 score from last week for a total of 145. The winner of the Handicap Challenge Cup for 2016 was Jim Colvin with a two round total of 144.
The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for an EG Medal. The leading lady on the day recording an impressive nett 70 was Lisa Tinsley.
The Seniors Stableford on Monday fell foul to the elements as fog descended over the course making play on the day impossible. The event has been rescheduled for this coming Monday.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
Is it the 'Big Three' or the 'Big Four'?
Just when you thought Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy were all set to divvy up golf's biggest prizes, along comes big-hitting Dustin Johnson. The US champion is now number two in the world and looks to be finally fulfilling his potential after another fine win at the weekend - and a big one too at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. For years Johnson seemed destined to be the bridesmaid, now he's one of the favourites to go back-to-back in Majors and take the Claret Jug back across the Atlantic.
Next week's Open at Royal Troon could be a classic
