Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club with plenty of action both off and on the course.
Lady Captain Rosemary Pratt celebrated her Captain's Day on Tuesday. The day proved to be a resounding success with well over 100 Ladies enjoying her hospitality. The leading team on the day with a tremendous 109 points was Pat Malpass, Margaret Webb and Linda Knapton.
There was a decent entry for the August Medal last weekend. The star performer on the day was Terry Heard who shot an impressive gross 73, nett 67 to claim the best overall score prize and top spot in Division 1. New boy Alex Paget took the honours in Division 2 with a nett 70, and Max Hanford led the way in Division 3 with a nett 71.
Congratulations to Terry Heard on winning this year's Roy Greenaway Trophy with a nett 67 which was run in conjunction with the medal.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
Amateurs or pros?
By the time you read this a few medals will have been handed out already in Rio - but who's going to take home Olympic gold in the golf?
The build-up to Rio - in terms of the golf - was dominated by many of the game's biggest stars dropping out, and these players have all received a lot of criticism for doing so.
Was the Zika virus a convenient excuse? Can today's elite stars be forgiven for skipping the Games because of their hectic schedules? Where does an Olympic gold medal stack up against a Green Jacket or Claret Jug?
Whatever your opinion, it has raised the question as to whether amateur golfers should have been targeted to represent the sport in Rio, rather than professionals.
We'd be interested to know your opinion, so pop to our homepage and register your vote.
It's a discussion that will rumble on. In the meantime, let's see how those who are playing get on. When the medal ceremony does take place, we wonder whether any of those who did decide to withdraw will regret their decision. Just a thought…
