Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club both on and off the course.
There was a decent entry for the August Medal last weekend. The threat of poor weather seemed to put off a few entries, but the day turned out to be better than expected and scoring on the day was exceptional. The honour of best overall score of the day was by
Andy Pelosi with an excellent nett 65, who also topped his Division 1.
Bill Edwards led the way in Division 2 with an impressive nett 66 and
Charlie Stafford continued his good form with a solid nett 69 to win Division 3.
Congratulations to Andy Pelosi on winning this year's Roy Greenaway Medal with a nett 65 which was run in conjunction with the medal.
The Senior's were out in force on Monday for their Individual Stableford. The competition, as ever was extremely well supported with 93 entries, and it was nice to see Godfrey Kent back in the winner's enclosure with a tremendous 41 points. The leading venerable vet was Roy Henderson with 36 Points.
The entry for the Ladies EG Medal on Tuesday was somewhat restricted by the weather as heavy rain was forecasted and eventual fell threatening to cancel play for the day. The one player that found the conditions most to her liking was
Judy Murray whose round of nett 72 claimed the best overall score of the day and top spot in Division 1.
Rowan Edbrooke took the honours in Division 2 with a nett 79.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
What is the weak point of your game? Driving? Short putting? No doubt you have an answer. But how do you know?
For most club golfers, their answer will be based on a hunch. But ask a tour pro the same question and he can back his answer up with cold, hard figures.
Stat gathering may not sound the most exciting exercise, but it can have a very positive effect on your game. Truly know your strengths and weaknesses and you can start to work on the parts of your game that need it most. After all, as Lee Trevino said, golf is about making your worst shot better.
We'll be happy to discuss your best approach to game analysis. But for a simple start, chart your performance on par 3s, 4s and 5s for the next month. Compare the results to find out which type of your hole is weakest. Once you know that, you can begin to target your practice accordingly. And that's really going to speed up your progress.
