Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another lovely week here at East Devon Golf Club and we have been very busy both on and off the course.
First action to report on is the September Stableford which attracted an entry of 99 last Saturday, and the star performer on the day was John Hall who returned an impressive 42 points to take the best overall score prize and top spot in Division 3. Robin Murray was back in form to take the honours in Division 1 with 38 points a score matched later in the day by Luke Owen on his way to winning Division 2.
Congratulations to Sally Underwood and Mark Heyward on winning this year's Mixed Foursomes Cup on Sunday with 42 points.
The Senior's were out in force on Monday for a Greensomes Stableford. The pairing of Michael Whitehead and Alan Dent topped a closely contested leaderboard with 40 points beating two other pairings with a better back nine.
The ladies were back in action on Tuesday for a Stableford. There was a number of notable performances on the day and some of the best scores of the season so far were recorded. The leading lady on the day was Alison Corney, taking the best overall score prize and victory in Division 1 with a sensational 44 points.
Shirley Pressey led the way in Division 2 with a brilliant 42 points.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
By the time you read this, Team Europe may already be well on their way to winning the Ryder Cup… again! Who knows, maybe the Americans will claim the trophy for the first time since Valhalla in 2008.
If you're watching and you can separate yourself from the theatre, we recommend trying to learn a thing or two from the pros. One of the things that strikes us during Ryder Cup week is how deadly accurate they are from 120 yards and in. Given the freedom to attack the pins, it can turn into a real birdie fest.
When you're sat there thinking 'How do they do it?' bear us in mind as we can help you make more birdies with your wedges. You might not ever make the Ryder Cup team but we can guarantee we'll make you a better player in the short-game area, so you win more events at the club. Click here to request a short game lesson.
Enjoy the drama of Gleneagles.
Finally this week I would like to notify all members that the Par 3 Challenge being held on the 19th October has been changed to an individual competition. A sign up sheet will be available in the clubhouse for anyone interested in playing.
