Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been a fairly quiet week here at East Devon Golf Club. The weather has started to take a turn for the worst and conditions up at the Club on Thursday were pretty savage. At one point I thought the roof was about to blow off the Pro shop, but in the end it was only a couple of ridge tiles. The clubhouse roof also came off second best to the elements as a bit of damage was also done over there.
The only surviving competitive action this week was the anytime Stableford on Sunday. There was a decent entry and the event proved to be an extremely close run affair with 3 players tying at the top of the leaderboard on an impressive 41 points. By virtue of a card play-off, the bragging rights for this month go to David Handford. The leading lady on the day was Nina Hawkins with 34 points.
The ladies County Stableford fell foul to the elements on Tuesday as heavy overnight and early morning rain put pay to the fixture.

It's always a great buzz to get your hands on a new driver, set of irons or putter. Fitted correctly more often than not golfers are able to make rapid improvements safe in the knowledge they're playing with the right specification and right model that's going to work the best with their swing.
That said, we're equally happy when we see people walk away after a lesson with a solution to their problem, confident that they can work on a particular aspect of their game and take that onto the course with them and play better golf.
Lessons may not be everyone's answer when they're struggling and we know many of you like to persevere on your own - and we dare say a few of you are a bit too proud to ask for our help! All we'd say on that last point is that if professional golfers work so hard to improve - many of whom are already earning a nice wage - why do so many amateurs shun the idea of lessons? As a whole, it's us amateur golfers who have the most potential to improve.
