Welcome to my first newsletter of 2014. I trust that you all had a great time over the Christmas period and saw the New Year in, in style!
Captain's Drive In
There was a fantastic turn out for the annual Captain's Drive in on New Year's Day. The weather took a slight turn for the worst as Stewart, Sandra, and James formally began their year of office by driving in from the eighteenth tee. I am pleased to report that despite a few nerves pre drive in, they all produced some incredible drives and are all looking forward to their year ahead.
Before I begin my report on this year's action, there are a couple of events to catch up on from the end of last season.
The December Stableford attracted an entry of 89 competitors and it was Danny Barrett who produced the best round of the day an excellent 39 points and victory in Division 2. Mike Williams took the honours in Division 1 with 37 points and Alan Dewhurst led the way in Division 3 with 36 points.
The final Ladies Stableford of 2014 saw Sally Shackleton at the top of the pile with an impressive 35 points.
The final event of 2014 was the Cross Country Texas Scramble. The competition always attracts a sizeable field and a fun time is had by all. This year's format was split into two categories with prizes for the best male team and the best mixed team. The leading male team on the day was Bill Nodwell, Harry Nodwell, Matt Latham and Wayne Bastian. The leading mixed team was Marilyn Gerrard, Chris Allison, Neil Jones and Sarah Jones.
The first competitive action of 2015 fell foul to the weather as heavy rain washed out the January Medal.
The playing season at East Devon Golf Club finally got under way on Monday when the Seniors were out in force for a Stableford. The star performer on the day was Phil Keen who returned a fantastic 41 Points. The leading venerable vet was Ron Jefford with 34 Points.
There was a good turn out for the Ladies season opener, 5 Clubs and a Putter Stableford. The leading lady on the day and continuing her run of good form was Rowan Edbrooke with a tremendous 37 Points.
Congratulations to all of this week winners.
Enjoy your golf this week.
