Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. We have had another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club. My start of season coaching for the Ladies teams is well underway and there have been a number of positive results already. Good luck to all of the teams in the upcoming fixtures.
First action to report on this week is from the Men's Stableford. 106 golfers battled it out for the honours on a dry and bright day. The star performer was Philip Prince armed with his new custom fit PING G30 set who recorded an excellent 39 points to scoop the best overall prize and top spot in Division 3. Marc Newton continued his rich vein of form to claim the bragging rights in a closely fought Division 1 with 35 points and Neil Sear led the way in Division 2 with 33 Points.
The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for the Express & Echo Foursomes. 35 Pairs ventured out and the event turned out to be a very close run affair with 3 pairs tying at the top of the leaderboard with 33 points. By virtue of a superior back 9 this years winners were
Jan Harvey and
Elaine Curel.
East Devon began their quest to regain the Exe League on Sunday when they hosted the first round of this year's round robin event. Scoring was tough on the day and home advantage paid dividends as East Devon came out on top securing their first 10 points.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
Gone with the wind
The weekend's European Tour action was a rain-affected affair in Madeira. You'll often read articles about how to control your ball flight in the wind and if you can add a new shot or two to your armoury then you'll be a better player for it.
A quick tip for you: to produce a slightly lower flight so your ball doesn't lose its penetration, move the ball back in your stance and focus on making a normal swing. It sounds simple but it's worth practicing this on the range and noting the change in trajectory which results from your hands being slightly ahead of the ball through impact.
Master this and the next time the wind gets up midway through the monthly medal and you won't have the fear. You may even relish it!
