Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another very busy week here at East Devon Golf Club both on and off the course.
The first news to report upon this week is from the Taster Sessions we held this weekend at the golf club for people of all ages and genders to participate in golf. 30 people took part and the majority took up on our 'Get into Golf' offer which is a scheme being run by England Golf throughout May. My thanks go out to my assistant Matt for his support with the event and to all of the helpers over the weekend who helped to make things run smoothly.
The first competitive action to report upon is the results from the Midweek Stableford. Taking top spot with an excellent 37 Points was Richard Tate. There were 45 Entries.
There was a bumper turn out for the April Stableford on Saturday. A beautiful spring day greeted the 119 competitors and with the stiff breeze and the firm ground conditions, scoring was always going to be far from easy, to the extent that none of the field managed to play to their handicap or better! The star performer on the day was Will Hendry who recorded a gutsy 34 points to claim the best overall prize and top spot in Division 1. David Brunwin took the honours in Division 2 with 33 points and Bill Ficken lead the way in Division 3 with 33 points.
The Coronation Cup was also up for grabs this weekend which is a tournament competed for by the previous years Stableford winners and by virtue of his 34 points Will Hendry was victorious.
The three qualifiers for the Mercedes Trophy who will represent the club at the Regional Final at Woodbury Park later in the year were Will Hendry, David Brunwin and Trevor Reeve.
Seniors were out in force on Monday for their individual Stableford and the first qualifying round for the Senior Centenary Salver. Leading the way with an impressive 42 points was David Cole. The leading venerable vet was Geoff Whiteley with 32 points.
There was a tremendous turn out for the Ladies County Stableford on Tuesday. With their last two competitions being cancelled with high winds and fog it was nice to finally get a competition completed. The leading Lady on the day with a brilliant 38 points was Julie Clarke.
The Stableford Finals were also competed for on the day, Ali Miller taking the Silver Division and Julie Clarke the Bronze Division.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners. Have a great week and enjoy your golf.
The Ladies Fashion Show proved to be a big hit last week with over 100 ladies turning out to view our new Spring/Summer ranges for 2015 all on show. My personal thanks must go to my wife Sally for organising the event and for all of the models who gave up their time to make the evening a great success.
