Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club both on and off the course.
The main event at the Club this weekend has been the prestigious Clinton Centenary Vase which was up for grabs on the Bank Holiday Monday. The event is annually competed for on a Stableford format and is open to all members of the club. The event attracted a bumper entry of 160 competitors and with the conditions on the day being friendly a good score was up for grabs.
The event proved to be one of the most keenly contested contests since its origination in 2002 with three players locked at the top of the leaderboard on 39 Points. By virtue of a card playoff and lifting the trophy for 2015 was John Threlfall. The unfortunate players missing out on the silverware were Andy Pelosi and Annie Dent.
The ladies were out in force on Tuesday for a County Stableford. In another closely contested event the leading lady on the day amongst the 80 competitors was Sue Burley who returned an excellent 37 Points to take the best overall score.
Places for the Warren Crocus were also up for grabs on Tuesday and the following players will represent East Devon at Dawlish Warren later in the year. Lisa Tinsley & Di Willoughby (Silver Division), Julie Clarke & Margaret Powell (Bronze Division).
The Sunday Stableford attracted a modest entry last weekend. Star performer on the day was Bruce Chapman who carded an impressive 40 Points. Helen Chivers was the leading lady with 35 Points.
