Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter.
It has been another lovely week here at East Devon Golf Club with the temperatures soaring! This has had a pretty dramatic effect on the golf course with lots of lovely bounces now occurring, the odd patch of long grass and the greens quickening in pace, proper golf!
It has been an extremely busy week both on and off the course and I shall start my round up this week the annual Captains' Charity Golf Day which proved to be a great success last Wednesday.
The event was well supported and a large sum of cash was raised on the day for the charity.
The leading team on the day was Andy Pelosi, Cliff Lockwood, Clive Pantoll and Allen Hayward with an excellent 83 points.
The second and concluding round of the Scratch and Handicap Championship took place on Saturday with still much to play for.
The Scratch Medal for 2015 was won by Jacob Tinsley who returned a Gross 77 to add to his 71 score from last week for a total of 148.
The winner of the Handicap Challenge Cup for 2015 was Don Peek with a two round total of 140, Level Par.
The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for a Stableford. The leading lady on the day recording an impressive 38 Points was Sally Shackleton.
The Blatcher Cup was run in conjunction with the Stableford and by virtue of her excellent performance Sally Shackleton was crowned as this year's Champion.
There was a bumper turn out for the Seniors Stableford on Monday. The star performer on the day was Michael O'Reilly who returned an excellent 37 in the blustery conditions to top the leaderboard. The leading venerable vet was Bill Fox with 31 points.
Finally this week some mixed emotions from the Palairet Team who were narrowly defeated by Yelverton on Sunday at Dainton Park but were informed the following day that Yelverton had played an ineligible player so the final result was a win for East Devon by 3 matches to 2. They will now face Thurlestone in the Quarter-Finals at Torquay on Sunday, 26 July.
Congratulations to all of this week's winners.
