Greetings from Trevor Underwood
East Devon Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club but competitive action has been a little quiet on the course.

First of all I would like to thank everyone for supporting my Professional's Day which is taking place next Saturday, 15 July. We have been completely sold out for the past few weeks and have a total of 50 Teams entering this year. Myself and Matt have ordered the good weather so we are hoping for another successful day with plenty of fun, good golf and prizes.

First action to report was from Tuesday with a County Stableford challenging the Ladies section. Scoring on the day was excellent. Taking the honours for best score on the day was Jacquie Lee with a fantastic 41 Points. Close on her heels was Jane Joy who carded an impressive 40 Points.

The Exe League came to a conclusion last week and the East Devon Men's Team took the honours after defeating Woodbury, Exeter and Tiverton. The Exe League is played at all four venues with both Foursomes and Better Ball formats being played. The Stableford scores are combined from each venue and East Devon cruised to a comfortable overall victory

Congratulations to all of this week's winners.

We are thrilled to be able to announce that we have organised a PING fitting day here at East Devon on Wednesday, 12 August from 12pm - 4pm.

This is a fantastic opportunity to try out the fantastic G30 range which has taken the industry by storm throughout 2015. The fitting sessions will be FREE and there is no obligation to purchase, so what have you got to lose?!

Who will be lifting the Claret Jug come Sunday evening?

By the time you read this, Jordan Spieth may already have one hand on the coveted trophy, so impressive is the young American's form. The winner of the first two Majors of the season will be bidding to make it a hat-trick at the Home of Golf, and what a story that would be.

The Open is bound to inspire you to get out and play a bit this weekend, so with this in mind here's a little tip to help you in blustery conditions, a bit like the guys at St Andrews will be facing. When playing into the wind, resist the urge to take the skin off the ball. There's a difference between attacking the ball with confidence and swinging too hard, which will create more backspin. At best, with a good connection, you'll send the ball higher. Into the wind you're not going to get the result you're after. More often than not however, with amateur golfers, the ball won't get airborne or destructive hooks and slices will come into play.

Instead, take an extra club or two and swing at 75%, with the ball an inch farther back in your stance. The ball will have a lower flight, but with the control you need. You'll be a better player with this shot in your locker. Give it a go and see how you get on.

For swing advice and lessons, don't hesitate to click here and get in touch. Enjoy the action.
