Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another busy week here at East Devon Golf Club with plenty of action both off and on the course.
I have just returned from a few days away with East Devon Golf Club Junior Team, who have been competing in the English Junior Champion Club Finals at Frilford Heath. It was a truly memorable experience for the team of Junior Captain James Underwood, Sam Corney and Max Handford who played some brilliant golf over the 2 round national tournament and were a great credit to Club and the County who they were representing. The team finished the event in 9th place with a 2 round total of 150 points, which was a fantastic achievement.
Club Captain
Stewart Jackson celebrated his Captain's Day on Saturday. The day proved to be a resounding success with well over 200 players enjoying his hospitality. The star performer on the day was
Paul Newcombe who recorded an excellent 39 points to lift the Captain's Prize.
Bruce Chapman took the honours in Division 1 with 38 points,
John Threlfall led the way in Division2 with 39 points and
Barry Gates topped Division 3 with 38 points.
The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for their County Stableford. The leading lady on the day was
Helen Chivers who returned an tremendous 42 points.
By virtue of her excellent round on Tuesday,
Helen became this year's winner of the Golf Foundation Brooch.
Congratulations to the ladies
Sheelah Creasy Team who have made it through to this year's semi-finals by virtue of a resounding victory over Bovey Tracey at Boringdon Park Golf Club on Monday.
They now go on to face Axecliffe in the semi-final at Sidmouth Golf Club later in the month.
A big thank you to all of the members who supported my PING Demo Day at the Club on Wednesday. It proved to be a great success and it was nice to see so many people benefitting from the Custom Fit experience.

Lowry's long game masterclass What a fine win it was at the weekend for Shane Lowry, who won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in fantastic style. The Irishman began the day two shots back, but emerged victorious to win by two from the big-hitting Bubba Watson. Of course, many of you will already know this and we dare say a few of you cashed in on the 100/1 shot, who has been in superb form this season.
My Buying Group, Foremost Golf, was invited to an equipment launch recently where Lowry was a speaker. In his own words he was
"Striking the ball nicely" and put his recent good form down to improvements in his ball striking and long game. In the end, he struck some pretty impressive wedges, too - none better than on 10, where he fashioned an approach from behind the trees to stick the ball to tap-in birdie range.
Lowry admits to being more of a 'feel' player than being overly technical. Whilst you are undoubtedly born with such talent, a huge amount of hard work has gone into his game. If you haven't watched final-round highlights, make sure you do. And if you're desperate to start making some improvements, or perhaps add a Shane-like recovery shot to your armoury, come and see us or
