Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another very busy week here at East Devon Golf Club with all sections having competitive action.
First action to report on is the August Stableford. There was a bumper entry of 121. Scoring in all three divisions was exceptional. The Star performer on the day was Paul Murray with an impressive 42 points to land overall best score of the day and top spot in Division 2.
David Blick bounced back to form with a gross 66 and 39 points to take top spot in Division 1, and Bill Nodwell pipped Roger Chappell on his way to winning Division 3 with 39 points.
Congratulations to Paul Murray on winning this year's Cobbett Cup which was run in conjunction with the August Stableford.
The seniors were out in force on Monday for a Bowmaker Stableford. The trio of Taff Powell, Danny Barrett and John Threlfall took the honours with a fantastic 86 points for a landslide victory. 23 Teams entered.
The Stableford in 3's attracted an entry of 94 Ladies on Tuesday. The event proved to be an extremely close run affair with three players locked at the top of the leaderboard with an outstanding 41 points. By virtue of a card playoff Linda Down led the plaudits for the best overall score of the day. Just missing out on the honours was Julie Sampson and the in form Pauline Richards.
Well done to all this weeks winners.
Such a perfect day...
The inevitable has finally happened! Nearly man, Jason Day, has finally become a Major champion with his three-shot victory at Whistling Straits - and in what fine style he did it too. Day finished with a 67 to record a 20-under-par total at the USPGA, in the process breaking the record for the lowest total score at one of golf's big four.
One of Day's biggest attributes week-in, week-out is his driving ability. Not only is he deceivingly long off the tee, but he finds the fairway with comparative ease. Take last week for example; Day drove the ball an average of 307 yards and found the fairway 73% of the time. Just think how much easier this game would be if we could have that sort of distance-accuracy ratio.
We can help you achieve gains in the driving department, whether this be through coaching or fitting. Think about the difference a simple change could make to your game: averaging an extra 15 yards off the tee means that you could have 15 yards less left in to each green; the equivalent to one or two clubs. If you want to make this game easier for yourself then come and see us in store, or get in touch here.
Enjoy your golf this week. Trevor

Let's find your perfect driver
It's really positive that we're getting more of you to think harder about the ball you play; not just that, understanding the differences between models. A closer look at Srixon's Z-STAR shows it performs best with driver swing speeds betweeen 90 and 105mph. Why? Watch our video...
Many of you will have seen how effective the R15 was for Jason Day at Whistling Straits. Despite being long, no doubt the Australian has his big stick dialled in for his game. For amateur golfers this is even more important. Speak to us about custom fitting and help with your adjustability options.
