Greetings from Trevor Underwood

Hello golfers,

Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another lovely week here at East Devon Golf Club and long may this spell of lovely weather continue.

Ladies Sheelah Creasy Team
Ladies Sheelah Creasy Team

Firstly in my news letter this week I would like to congratulate the Ladies Sheelah Creasy Team on reaching the Final after a convincing win against Axe Cliff at Sidmouth Golf Club last week. They will now be heading to Finals Day at Yelverton Golf Club on Monday to face Okehampton in the Final.

Ladies County Stableford and Whitehead Trophy

The ladies were out in force on Tuesday for a County Stableford. Scores on the day were excellent and with 39 points Jenny Dobel won best overall score and took top spot in Division 2. Rosemary Pratt led the way in Division 1 also with an impressive 39 Points. The Whitehead Trophy was run in conjunction with the Ladies County Stableford on Tuesday and Jill Miller was victorious with a brilliant 38 points.

Sunday Stableford

There was a small entry in the Sunday Stableford this week but you can not take anything away from the run away leader Alistair Mackenzie-Ross who carded an exceptional 44 points.

Seniors Better Ball Stableford & Moxon Fossil

And finally this week, the Seniors were out in force on Monday for their Better-Ball Stableford. It was the pairing of Dick Eiser & Ron Jefford who topped the leaderboard with a fabulous 44 points. The Moxon Fossil was also up for grabs and it was won by the Senior Vice-Captain team with a score of 6-3.

Congratulations to all of this week's winners.

Thought of the week

Whilst many of the more decorated players are plying their trade in America right now, it gives a great opportunity for other pros to make a name for themselves. Lee Slattery was such a player at the Russian Open last weekend.

The Englishman is a great example of not allowing a perceived weakness to stand in the way of victory. We all have areas we're more accomplished at than others: you could be brilliant off the tee but struggle around the greens, or vice versa.

Slattery openly admits his short game has been letting him down recently so it would have been a real surprise to him that the shot of the day was his chip in on 17. Playing from thick rough above the hole, he didn't have much green to play with but played a perfectly weighted chip that dropped in the bottom of the cup.

It shows that all is not lost with any aspect of your game, no matter how long you've been playing golf. You can also turn what you to feel is a weak part of your game into a strength - and this is where we can help you.

If your chipping is an area you need to work on (and if you're not getting up and down every time - it is!), then come and speak to us in store, or get in touch here

Golf Care

Are you taking a risk?

Every time we hear someone say they don’t have golf insurance, we wince. The potential costs associated with injuring someone with a stray shot, for example, should be enough to make you think about taking out a policy. We can help find a suitable policy that covers you with our recommended insurance provider, Golf Care, here…
