Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. It has been another beautiful week here at East Devon Golf Club. The course is looking and playing superbly well at this late stage of the season.


 

Matt moves on to pastures new:

My first bit of news this week is that my assistant Matt Lockey will be leaving East Devon Golf Club on the 11th October. Matt has been my Assistant here at East Devon since April 2011, during which time he has been able to gain valuable experience working at an established Members Club and has continued his own personal development. Matt has been a very popular figure around the Club and has helped to strengthen the Junior Academy. 

An opportunity has arisen for Matt to link up with Mark Crossfield at Clifton Hill Driving Range in Exeter to further his career and continue to help grow his own Coach Lockey Brand. I am sure you will all want to join me in thanking him for his time here at East Devon Golf Club, and wishing him well on his new appointment and future career.

Matt asked if he could just send a quick note out to all of our readers:

I would like to let everybody at EDGC know that I will be leaving my position as Assistant Professional at the club on 11th October. As some of you may be aware I have become increasingly involved in golf social media and I have been offered an opportunity to further my career in that line of work. 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody at the club for the help and support I have received over the four years here. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Trevor in the Pro Shop and I have learnt a lot alongside him. I hope I have been able to offer worthwhile and practical advice on playing the game as well as assisting with purchases in the shop. 

I would like to say a special thank you to those who have taken golf lessons with me. I sincerely hope the advice and guidance has helped each and every one of you to be better golfers, and a lot of feedback I have received over time has suggested this is the case. Keep up the good work!

As I move on to pastures new, given I live in Budleigh I suspect I will still be around from time to time. Best wishes to all and good luck in lowering your scores on this very challenging and beautiful course. The first domestic action to report upon this week is the results from the Autumn Pheasant. The event is played as a Foursomes Stableford off half combined handicap. The star performers on the day were the pairing of Jason Rowbotham and Rob Dance who strode to victory with a tremendous 40 points. 

The Ladies were out in force on Tuesday for their EG Medal. Scoring on the day in the balmy conditions was excellent. The leading lady with an impressive nett 71 was Angela Ward.

Several of the Club's Summer Knockouts have now been concluded and I would like to congratulate the following players on their success:

Geoff Millardship on winning the Heywood Bowl 

Joe Sharp on winning the Banfield Trophy 

Judy Murray and Glenn Page on winning the Law Salvers
